What image does the word blonde conjure up in your mind? A woman with light-coloured or yellowish or golden hair ! And what do you call such a man or woman ? Blondie it is!!! Well don’t be confused because this blog is not about humans but it is about a confection called blondie which derives its name because of its colour.
Blondie is actually a blonde brownie and is a sweet dessert bar. Technically, brownies are not exactly cakes. They are somewhere between cookies and cake and fall in the dessert bar category. They are not thin and crispy like the cookies and nor light like cakes. Fudge like would be a correct adjective to describe them. The same is true about blondies. Brownies are all about chocolate. But blondies do not contain chocolate in melted form and are vanilla flavoured. Another very popular flavour for blondies is cinnamon. They get their characteristic yellowish or golden colour because of the brown sugar that is used to make them. They may or may not contain chocolate chips but can be enriched with butterscotch chips. One could also use toasted coconut and nuts like walnuts, almonds, pecans and macadamia nuts to add the crunch element to the otherwise fudgy blondie.
One of my friends is not very fond of chocolate and hence brownies and I always bake blondies for her. Here is the recipe for it. Of course, I have included chocolate chips in this one as I cannot imagine a world without chocolate. You can decide for yourself!
